HONDA CIVIC EK 1.5
DNA PROJECT CAR |
NEXT UPDATE
Sometime ago I went down Southampton car auction with a mate of mine to look for a cheap car for him and then came home with this 1.5 EK Civic for the wife back in 2009. As you can see it’s not a bad car with our Teg parked behind it. It cost me £701.45 which was good. It came with lowered springs, cold air intake, TSW wheels, some small dents, the odd scratch and the gear box bearing is going and still is going but got a new gear box to go on for £15.00. And with only 89,000 miles on her and full service history from Honda what more could my wife want.

Then it happened. We sold the Teg and was looking for something new as you do and started thinking about the Civic. Well, after looking around on the Ebay world it started. First thing was to get rid of the badges and got a nice smart black Honda badge for the rear.
And that is how it all started. Now the car was mine and the project started by buying just one badge.
Next this came.

3” cat back with a 5” back boxes. Looks like an HKS copy. Anyway the person on eBay said it was for a saloon and did not fit right and would need cutting but from the picture he put up I matched it to a Civic hatch back and bid on it
I got it for £50 delivered. Not bad for a brand new T304 stainless steel exhaust.
It took 10 minutes to fit and fits like a glove and that is as far as I have got. Next is to strip out the inside get rid of the AC and paint the wheels black so more stuff coming soon.

Update on Project Civic
It’s been a while since I last posted (3 months!) and I was thinking that an awful lot has happened to the Civic since then so it’s time for an update!
Have to say a huge Thank you to Jason, who has spent a lot of his time around at my house helping me get the car ready for Japfest.
I wasn’t really sure what to do with the Civic, but thanks to Japfest, I decided to turn her onto a road legal track car. (Woohoo!) So the interior has been removed apart from a few switches for the windows and the sunroof (have to still have some luxuries!!)

Still got a lot to do but have started on the engine. Have got rid of the air con (which has freed up a lot of space and weight) and added a cold air feed/ram air feed which was made on the cheap with bits from the local DIY shop. Just need to build a box for it and the air feed will be finished.

I brought some Scooby seats which took a bit of work to fit, not straight forward this malarkey!! They give just enough clearance inside and look awesome!

Slowly getting there. She’s been off of the road for three weeks and now I only have 3 days to do the rest. The wheels just didn’t look right in silver on a white car so have sprayed them black with red behind. Another day gone. However it made the car look so much better.

Took delivery of a sun strip with the DNA website address on it. Took two of us, a bottle of water spray and 30 minutes to get it on. Again would not have managed to do this alone so thanks to Jason again.
Also decided to raise the bonnet with some new bolts and an awful lot of washers, should help with heat distribution and removing heat from the engine bay.

Now, one person who I would like to thank more than anyone is my wife who has had to put up with my little project over the last few months. As I am writing this I am spraying a wheel in the living room after a little accident with a kerb so thanks Amy for putting up with me...
And this is her now.

Well not much has happened. So far I have not had the time but things are still going on. Done the engine bay. Removed lots of pipes and had a play with it to make it run a bit better but it is still slow and have some plans for it.
Got some new head lights which I think make it look a lot better as I’m trying to keep the black and white theme up.

Next job was to remove all the air bags and I found an MX-5 hub and steering wheel in the shed. Now the steering wheel was a nice 10” MOMO which had to go on but would an MX-5 hub fit? Well… yes and no. Hub did fit but there was no horn socket, so after a bit of thinking moved the horn to the dash on a push button. Job done!

Now all I have to do is sort out a bit of rust on the back and get it stickered up and then 15,000 other thing and it will all be done...
